Application Form

To complete the submission, please send the following documents compiled as a single pdf file to research@samw.ch.

 

NB: Please make sure that the submitted PDF is not protected against editing since standardized information will be added to the application documents by the SAMS.

 

• Motivation letter (max. 1 page) with short explanatory statement for your application

 

• Career plan (max. 1.5 page) describing your academic and clinical aims

 

• CV (max. 2 pages – all dates must include month and year)

 

• Complete list of publications (chronological, with sections for first and last authorships) and major scientific achievements, with a link to the applicant's ORCID profile

 

• Project summary (max. 1 page) with background, aims, design and methods

 

• Detailed research plan (max. 6 pages including tables and figures, excluding bibliographic references. Min. font size 11, min. single line spacing), with:
  • Current state of research
  • Hypotheses
  • Aims
  • Relevance of the proposed research
  • Detailed methodology
  • Planned experiments
  • If applicable, role of the young researcher(s) involved in the project
  • Milestones and pitfalls
  • Timetable in which the requested grant period is clearly indicated

 

• Budget specifying:
  • The working time of the applicant reserved for research (in percentage) during the grant period (in months)
  • The corresponding requested salary (in CHF)
  • Requested and available third-party funds (if applicable).

 

• Confirmation from the director of the research department guaranteeing for the entire duration of the grant:
  • Support and integration into the research activities of the host institution
  • Access to the necessary infrastructure
  • Amount of financial support offered (consumables, etc.)
  • The confirmation must also contain a statement regarding the support of the applicant after the grant period for her/his next career steps.

 

• Confirmation from the clinic director guaranteeing, for the entire duration of the grant:
  • That the requested research time (min. 50%) will be freed up from clinical activities
  • A clinical position as senior resident or attending physician
  • If applicable, that any difference between the grant amount and the effective salary of the applicant will be covered by the host institution
  • The clinic direction must also comment on the applicant's qualities as clinician, relative to her/his career stage, and on the support planned for her/his next career steps.

 

• Up to 3 reference letters (to be integrated in the application documents submitted by the applicant to the SAMS).

 

• NB: The confirmation letters and the reference letters must be written on paper with official letterhead and signed.

 

• Copies of all relevant diplomas
  • NB: If the medical degree was obtained outside of Switzerland, a copy of the original diploma(s) must be submitted with a transcript in English, German, French or Italian. Please add a copy of the full MEBEKO recognition decision. 

 

• If applicable, copy of ethics committee’s decision and other authorisations (to be submitted at the latest before grant opening).

 

Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
