Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation
With the creation of the Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation, the aim of the Swiss National Foundation (SNF) is to promote patient-oriented clinical research in Switzerland. In mid-2007 an important interim objective was achieved: For the first time the SNF provided three centres of competence (in Basel, Berne and Geneva) with financial support for clinical research, amounting to a total of 3.4 million Swiss Francs. In May 2008 three further such centres were set up, in Zurich, Lausanne and St. Gallen. The aim of these so-called Clinical Trial Units (CTUs) is to support researchers of the most varied disciplines in the performance and evaluation of clinical trials.
The Swiss Clinical Trial Organisation also envisages the setting-up of a national centre for collaboration in clinical research (National Collaborative Center, NCC). The NCC is intended to ensure the networking and coordination of the CTUs and to support these in their various activities. The SNF has entrusted the SAMS with this task.
